About the Gita

Among the world’s scriptures,The Bhagavad Gita is one of the most popular texts. Its popularity is demonstrated by the fact that, next to the Bible, it is perhaps the most widely translated of scriptural texts. This scripture is suited for the entire man- kind, irrespective of a person’s religious or ethnic background.
The Gita is considered as the Revelation given by Lord Krishna to Arjuna, in the battle field to help him resolve his mental conflict and was put in the present form by sage Vyaasa. In India, ever since the great Shankara wrote his commentary on it, many eminent scholars of the vedanta philosophy have given their interpretations of this exemplary text.
It is not the ancient Indian thinkers alone, but many leaders of modern times had also taken it as a text for expounding their noblest thoughts. Many books such as Tilak’s Gita Rahasya, Aurobindo’s Essays on Gita and Mahatma Gandhi’s Anasakti Yoga show the continued preference and admiration for Gita over centuries.
The tremendous appeal of the Gita is because it deals with practical problems of Life, and contains lessons that we can follow to resolve our day to day conflicts. This could be the reason why there are so many links to the Bhagavad Gita in the internet as well…
About the Authors
The Gitaaonline site has been our favorite obsession over the last 10 years. It is a dedication to our Guruji and Satsang where we were first introduced to this great scripture and it has over years taught us a lot especially in adversity as well as in good times.
The Gitaaonline blogs is an idea that has been with us for a while but we had not been able to find the time neccessary to devote to it. However, what can stop an idea whose time has come..!

I appreciate the sincerity of purpose. God bless you and yr family.
It’s good to see this site. I feel happy about finding this atleast now. The essence is great. I guess if the slokas are in the direct script rather than in english it would add more beauty to it.
I like the Audio.Great job. Keep up the good work
I think the page is quite nice. Perhaps it would be as well to include the information that the `sarvopanishhado gAvo’ shloka is from the gItA-dhyAnaM’ attributed to Sri Shankara. Note also that Shankara is not the earlier commentator on the ‘Gita; Bodhayana, who lived over a 1000 years before, is the earliest known one, although his commentary is not presently available. I have also heard that there is a Kashmiri text of the ‘Gita that has 744 verses instead of the usual 700 or 701. I would appreciate it if someone could come up with the extra verses from this version that are not found in the standard text.
It’s a very interesting site, and it corresponds well with the university religious studies course that I am presently taking…Keep up the good work!!
Do keep me updated with all latest & New. Thanks.
Keep it up
Excellent job!
Thank you. I was beginning to wonder if there were any sites other than born again Christians on the rail road. Out of about seven (at least), you’re the only non-Christian site. I am interested in all world religions. Bright Blessings! Heidi
Interesting. I like the Slokas. Regular update.
Much love…
Thanks for putting up this website. I appreciate the simplifications of the slokas. The translations help me understand better and it helps me to think about the important principles that I should cultivate in myself as a person. Learning more about the Gita has helped me in my thinking. I would appreciate it if you can help me find a person to give me spiritual guidance.
I love the way you explain the Gita. Can I print this page for personal study? I also study “A Course in Miracles”. It and the “Gita” are very close in spiritual content. I love both books. Tonight I just felt the need for something like this. It has uplifted my spirit. Thank you.

Usual stuffs do not interest me.A critical and non-concealing approach in analysing what gita says about caste is what i want.
I.Q., E.Q. and S.Q.
Wilhelm Stern suggested the use of an intelligence quotient, to be derived by dividing the mental age by the chronological age, both expressed in total months, and multiplying the resultant by 100 as in the formula below:
I.Q = Mental Age/Chronological Age x 100
Taking a basis from the above I have suggested a mathematical formula each for emotional quotient (E.Q.) and spiritual quotient (S.Q.) as mentioned below.
E.Q. can be expressed as the product of I.Q. and Wisdom Factor. It has been observed that a person scores high on I.Q. Scale but he is not wise. His success in life hindered. But a wise man is always intelligent. What is wisdom? Wisdom is in fact intelligence but having some emotional sensitiveness.
S.Q. Knowledge of Self is spiritual intelligence. This knowledge is achieved through protracted practice of meditation and yoga. On the basis of physiological and psychological changes being taken place during this practice I have discovered a mathematical relationship for spiritual quotient (S.Q.). It can be expressed as ratio of parasympathetic dominance (P.D.) to sympathetic dominance (S.D.)
S.Q. = P.D. : S.D. (P.D. / S.D.)
Nice Gita site. Do you know about this edition of the Gita?

Dear Sir / Madam,
I am enticed by your website and feel thankful for the same.
However,at work I feel there is injustice.Undeserving people are promoted, their mistakes are overlooked. There is lot of treachery and deceit. This disturbs my peace and fills me with hatred.
I was conned in my marriage.I feel sceptical and lonely.I am anxious of my future even though I am ambitious.I pray for guidance and wisdom.
Perumal
Madam sowmya,
Its indeed a great work you have done by working on the principles and the knowledge of bhagawad gita. For many years i have been with various problems in life. I have received a copy of bhagawad gita for rs.60/- from kumbakonam, when i was going to a hotel and after finishing my lunch the owner of the hotel gave me the book and said it is complementary for rs.60/- and i bought it immediately. I have not gone through the book. Today Im working abroad, faced with many problems, stress job related conditions, always under tension, harassement by my superiors, and so on, I have been invited to undergo secret of success courses by bob proactor in united states by my friends and when i was searching the google today, i got the ebook edition of the bhagawad gita. Then after going through the preface and explanations given, i have decided to go through the gifted bhagawad gita with dedication and search the path to attain and see and feel god himself. I have just completed hearing your audio clippings in your website and have taken notes of the various teachings of bhagawad gita and found meditate on the nature of the supreme, perform my karma, then control my mind, seek solititude, understand karma, bakti, gnanam, knowledge and devotion to god and follow the process of devotion to attain the true nature of god. Now I dont need to follow bob proactor secret to success, wherein the devotional book gita will provide me the way and path to me.
A million thanks to you for this very much useful audio and also the website for downloading the bhagawad gita zip folder, which would add prospects to my life and provide me a new begining.
with best regards,
saravana kumar kannaiyan

Hello:
I have a few questions.
According to the Bhagavad Gita, how was this cosmic manifestation created and by whom?
According to Bhagavad Gita, under whose direction is this cosmic manifestation working and getting created again and again?
According to Bhagavad Gita, what object are we supposed to meditate on as told by Lord Krishna?
How to get out of the cycle of action-inaction-reaction according to Bhagavad Gita said by Lord Krishna?
Who am I? Do I have a spiritual body or I am formless?
Why am I suffering in this material world?
Why have I come to this material world?
Why am I confused about my existence?
What is my real duty towards my work, family, society, God?
What is said in the bonafide scriptures like Bhagavad Gita and Srimad Bhagvatam about action and its effects, soul, miseries, and devotion?
What happens after death? Is there any life after death? What are the different stages that the soul has to through after death?
What are the different planetary systems in the spiritual sky and who are their controllers?
Who is God?
Awaiting your reply.
Thanks,
Parag.
