Swami Anubhavananda's Gita Jnana Yagna In the middle of January, something wonderful happened in Bahrain. We had a Gita Jnana Yagna conducted by the Chinmaya Society of Bahrain. In this yagna, Swami Anubhavananda gave a series of talks on the fourth chapter of the Bhagavad Gita which is also known as Jnana Karma Sa.nnyasa Yoga. In addition to this, he also gave a series of lectures on the Kenopanishad, from 5 to 6.30 in the mornings. Listening to Swamiji was a wonderful experience. If a person has not listened to him before, it would be difficult to visualize, how he transformed the temple hall, which was literally throbbing with listeners, into a veritable heaven of laughter. Swamiji has the unique capacity of combining spiritual subjects with an irrepressible sense of humor. Just hearing the crowd laugh at every other sentence was a unique experience. Many people have the talent of converting even interesting subjects into really boring monologues, but here was a person who simply mesmerized the crowd that included men and women, young as well as old, from all parts of India, some of whom were spiritually accomplished while others were mere toddlers on the path of spirituality. He drew them like a magnet and people thronged every day to the yagna, asking for more. The winter was quite bitter and yet many people who could not be accommodated inside the hall, stood outside and watched the discourse in the TV monitors. This was in spite of the fact that Audio and Video cassettes were being made available after the event. Swamiji truly impacted our lives and even a month after his visit, every word he said remains fresh in our minds. Like a cow that regurgitates its food and digests it slowly, we keep bringing back every word he uttered and just remembering the way he said it and the context makes us laugh at his jokes as well as contemplate on the spiritual messages again and again. Our Guruji had desired that instead of our regular Satsangh, we should attend the Yagna every day in the mornings and evenings. I was one of the lucky people who attended the yagna. In the evenings the talks on the Gita were in Hindi. I had noted as much as I could while listening to him and based on these notes, I have been able to prepare this document. This is a sure testimonial of how much it has affected me, personally. I am giving a series of talks at our Satsangh for the benefit of those who were not fortunate enough to have attended the talks, those who could not understand the talks since they were in Hindi and lastly those, who, like me, simply want to hear it again and again. Now, this yagna prasaad is made available to all of you. Hari Om. Sri Krishnaarpanamasthu.
