This is a letter written to a son by his father in 1990 when he was undergoing treatment for cancer and the son was struggling to settle down in life. His father is no more, but his words, aptly quoted from the Bhagavad Gita will continue to inspire several people for a long time to come. We were moved when we read this letter and thought of sharing this with all our readers.
We sincerely thank this gentleman for uploading this document in the hope that others may also benefit from his father’s gist of the Gita…
A wonderful letter ! This should in fact be preserved by one and all.
Sincere thanks to the gent who chose to share this private piece of worldly wisdom..
It is a very valuable letter as it highlights the application of the philosophy stated in Bhagavadgita at all stages in our life.
Here, a father who is undergoing a treatment for cancer is an example of how, despite he himself facing a grave situation in his own life, is able to keep his mind stable and still give such a valuable piece of advice to his young son.
The steps advised in the letter are summarized below:
1. Stand in the Middle of Opposite Possibilities
2. Look to your Mentor or Guru
3. De-Ego your out-look
4. Define your role in Decision making
5. Apply to the options- the Test of Rationality
6. Apply the Test of Practicality
7. Apply the Test of Self-Identification
8. Visualize yourself as having achieved the goal
9. When nothing works- seek refuge in your God.
In marathi language, there is a very simple but meaningful proverb which says:”Prayatnanti Parameshwar” meaning “At the end of all efforts seek Refuge in God” Thus Self-Effort is always primary.
Bhagavadgita is a complele life guide, in as much as it has answers to all the questions which we face at different stages in our life. It empahsizes the performance of righteous actions in the best interest of the society, the nation and the humanity as a whole.
One can find the origin of All the Modern Management Mantras in Bhagavadgita.
