BANGALORE: The state government is seriously considering a proposal to include Bhagavad Gita in the school curricula.
Speaking to reporters here on Thursday, primary and secondary education minister Vishweshvar Hegde Kageri said the government will take a decision after seeking public opinion . "The demand for this has been there for some time. However, we will discuss with all stakeholders before a decision is taken," he said.
Earlier, Sonda Swarnavalli Math seer Gangadharendra Saraswati said Nimhans and Vivekananda Yoga university will organize a seminar on the scientific dimensions of the Bhagavad Gita on September 20 and 21. Experts will speak on various aspects of the issue at the two-day seminar. The seer strongly demanded that Gita should be part of school curricula as it was not limited to one religion.
The suggestion of including ‘Bhagavadgita’ in the school curriculum is something that should have happened long ago. If we really need to bring in the true Indian renaissance, this initiative would be the best that can possibly happen as Bhagavad gita is truly the teachings for every human being irrespective of religious affiliations by birth.

This is something that we should have done long back. Happy to know this.
