It is great strotram, put to music and sung by MS. Subalakshmi..
Yudhistar od Pandwa fame after the war had some doubts. He went to Krishna to get his doubts clarified. Krishna who could dispell all questions Arjuna had, decided that someone other than himself will be a better teacher for Yudhister, and suggested that the question should be answered by Bhisma.
So they went to Bhisma, and he gave this strotram.
Vishnu Sahasranama is a hymn sung by “Pitamaha Beeshma” for the benefit of Pandava brothers when he was lying on the bed of arrows awaiting his end. In fact, when Krishna advised the Pandavas to get wisdom from Beeshma, Udhistra asked him, “Which is the best Dharma by following which man can attain? Which is the best Japa by repeating which, the embodied beings get salvation? In reply to this Beeshma uttered the 1008 names of Mahavishnu based on his Divine attributes. In the last, even Parvathi ask Lord Shiva, “How a man can repeat all 1008 names. If there is some other way to get the benefit of repeating the entire sahasra nama. Shiva replies “Shree Rama Rama Rameti, Rame Rame Manorame, Sahasranama Tattulyam, Ramanama Varanane”-By repeating this stanza, you reap the benefit of repeating the entire Sahasranama. I do this parayana whenever i gets sufficient time. It is elevating and ennobling experience. It removes the darkness in our inner realm and make us eligible to get the highest wisdom. Sairam.
As a hindu evryone knows about what is meant by Vishnu Sahasranamas. These are the names of the vishnu these are having their one power in doing gud for thyself.I think there is no relevance to mahabharata.Have any doubts write to my mail.gud luck.

i have read it many times .i dunno abt loving it but regular recital hesls diseases and improves the intelligence!
If we daily recite them divine qualities happen to us.
Shirdi saibaba used to insist on recitation of it.
Please see http://saranaagathi.files.wordpress.com/2008/03/vishnu_sahasra_namavali.pdf for Shri VishNu Sahasranaamaavali with English meanings of each.
I love chanting vishnu sahasranamam because it can help clear the mind from harmful thoughts. It can also help control karma.
