It’s good karma. The cats craving for dinner is desire, The cause of suffering in this world. But by perserving life you’re upholding multiples of the eightfold path; right view right judgement, right action and so on.
no because then the cat would be very upset. a cat will kill a mouse and leave somewhere near by they are considered gifts to you. mice are a natural prey to a cat.
my kitties leave dead moles, birds, and mice outside of my door on my porch. they love me a lot i guess because 2-3 times a week i receive a gift from them. or in such case if you were the mouse then yes it is good karma…i guess it all depends on your point of view.
Though by saving a life we are not making it immortal and realising that this is so, it is good to save life of a creature by comparing it with one’s self (‘Atmoupamyena’). To what extent one should go is debatable ; certainly in similar circumstances, one cannot save another inferior life form by endangering oneself.

if cat caught the mouse, its cat’s good fate. But if he doesn’t, its mouse’s good fate.
