Hari Om!
May the Blessings of Lord Krishna, the darling child of Nanda & Yashoda, the beloved of Gopis, the friend of Arjuna, the saviour of Draupadi be with all of us on this auspicious day of Krishna Janmashtami. May Gitopadeshaka Yogeshvara Shri Krishna guide us on the right path so that we continue to progress spriritually.
In yesterday’s post, Ram talked about ‘Gita and All round development’. He concluded with, “Do you want to be catapulted to a different league? A few verses of Gita a day is all you might need to think about..”. So, let me pick up the thread from there. While every shloka of Gita has the ability to guide us, there are some which can form the guiding principles of life.
Blessed are those whose mind is turned towards the Lord, who love the Lord. But, what to say of those devotees who are the beloved of the Lord himself. That is the state to strive for. A few days ago, I had posted shlokas 12-19 from chapter 12, bhakti yoga, where Lord Krishna himself describes the qualities of those devotees who are dear to him.
That selection of shlokas was taken from the booklet “utthaana path”. This booklet is a compilation of shlokas from Shrimad Bhagvadgita for daily reading and svaadhyaaya. It is organized with a daily prayer followed by different readings for each day of the week, so that one has a chance to stay in constant remembrance of the Lord and keep these principles for spiritual growth in mind, on a daily basis.
This was published in 1957 by Sau. Sarojani Devi & Shri Justice Shiv Dayal Ji Shrivastava. These selections formed part of our daily family prayer throughout our childhood. It is said that ‘the family which prays together, stays together’ and I can tell you from personal experience that this is indeed true.
In the next few posts of mine, I will share with you the shloka selections for each day of the week as well as the prayer. I hope that you will make time daily, to read and think about these verses from the Gita, for all round development. I am going to link all the selections below, so feel free to bookmark this webpage, so that you can refer to these easily.
I will be posting the shlokas in english transliteration, followed by the same sanskrit shloka in devanagari script. This will be followed by hindi verse translation of the same shlokas, taken from Shri Hari Gita by Pandit Dinanath Bhargava ‘Dinesh’. I’ll also post English Verse translation of the same, taken from Song Celestial by Sir Edwin Arnold.
If you are not able to view the devanagari script, please see this link for information. Please also take a moment to write a comment below, to let me know, whether you are able to view the script and read hindi or would you prefer all posts be in English only. Thanks!
Special Thanks to Prarthana and Aparna for finding the उत्थान पथ booklet and scanning the pages, so that I can share them easily with you.
