What Causes Stress?

Stress arises primarily due to lack of a person’s ability to handle work and life in a balanced way. This in turn results in an increase
wants coupled with peer pressure in “keeping up with the Joneses”!. In the midst of this imbalance, emotions of an individual gets trapped. Though the threshold of each individual differs, yet the ultimate breaking point, when reached spells the ruin of the person.

Important causes of Stress are :

  • Goal incongruence at both personal and business level. 
  • Excessive focus on selfish wealth accumulation and lack of concern for less priveleged people.
  • Lack of exercise and couch potato life-styles
  • Obsession with work
  • Juggling too many goals and not enough time and energy for accomplishing the goals

 The Gita offers age old solutions for stress management:

  • Do your action but do not hanker after results of action.
  • Understand that Happiness does not exist in any material objects.
  • Appreciate the good things you have.
  •  ”Why me” questions only worsen the situation. We have to reap what we sow
  • Be contented with what you have. Never increase your wants which is the root cause of increasing   stress.
  • Eat moderately, Exercise and do yoga regularly – these are stress busters
Understanding and imbing these values can easily provide solution to the modern day malaise of heart disease borne out of stress and lead to a better quality of life!
