Here is what is said in Bhagavadgeeta on Meditation:
Chapter 5 verse 17: Those whose mind and intellect are wholly merged in Him, who remain constantly established in identity with Him, and have finally become one with Him,their sins being wiped out by wisdom, reach supreme goal whence there is no return.
Also
Chapter 5, verse 19: Even here is the mortal plane conquered by those whose mind is established in Unity; since the Absolute is untouched by evil and is same to all, hence they are established in the Eternal.
Chapter 5 verse 27-28: shutting out thoughts of external enjoyment , with gaze fixed on the space between eye-brows, having regulated the Prana (ou going) and the Apana( ingoing) breaths flowing within nostrils, he who has bought his senses , mind and intellect under control-such comtemplative soul intent on liberation and free from desire , fear and anger is ever liberated.
Thus, Meditation is the process of contemplation or focussing our attention on the Supreme to reach the ultimate goal of the human life.
