As per Chapter 7 of Bhagavad Geeta,
Earth, water, fire, air ,ether, mind, reason and also ego , constitute God’s nature divided into eight parts. This is indeed the lower nature (material nature )and other than this by which the whole universe is sustained know it to be GOD’s higher (spiritual) nature in the form of the life principle.
GOD is the souce of entire creation, and the creation also disappears in GOD .There is nothing else in this world other than GOD. GOD is ths support of the entire creation.
Hope this brief explanation helps to understand GOD through a human mind in a limited way, although in fact, he is beyond the reach of our mind.
hi Dumane…
I read few lines written by you so peaceful… it stunned me….
“GOD is the souce of entire creation, and the creation also disappears in GOD”
Would you please share your experience in few more words….
I am happy that you find the message writtten so peaceful, afterall it is not my writing but the words of the Lord in Bhagavadgeeta Chapter 7, as the GOD is described as “Sat Chit Anand” i.e. Truth, Knowledge and Bliss, so his message has also to be necessarily peaceful.
In order to share a few more thoughts with you, GOD says the entire creation is held by him just like a thread passing through a garland. Everyone can see the garland, but the thread passing through is not visible , but if the thread is removed, the garland would not be seen. In order that we can understand what GOD is, he further describes in the following verses:
Versse 9: “Jeevanam Sarvabhooteshu” meaning HE is the life in all beings,
Verse 10: “Beejam maam sarva Bhootanam” – meaning understand me as the seed of all beings
Verse 13: “The whole of this creation is deluded by the objects which are evolved from the three modes of Prakruti(The Primordial substance) namely Sattva, Rajas, and Tamas, that is why the world fails to recognize ME, standing apart from these and imperishable.”
Verse 16: “Four types of devotees of noble deeds worship ME, Arjuna, the seeker after worldly possesions, the afflicted, the seeker of knowledge, and the man of wisdom”
Verse 19: “In the very last of all births the enlightened person ie. “the man of wisdom” worships Me by realizing that all this is GOD. Such a great soul is very rare indeed.”
Vers 24: “Not knowing My supreme nature, unsurpassable and undecaying, the ignorants believe Me, who am the Supreme Spirit, beyond the reach of mind and senses, and the embodiment of Truth, Knowledge and Bliss, to have assumed a finite form through birth as an ordinary human being”
Verse 25: “Veiled by My Yogamaya( the Divine Potency ), I am not manifest to all. Hence, the ignorant folk fail to recognize Me, the unborn and imperishable Supreme Deity ”
In conclusion, one must progress on the spiritual path and reach the level of spiritual enlightenment whereby one can direclty experience GOD himself. Such a soul is very rare indeed.
Hari Om
In versa 13 : Sattva, Rajas, and Tamas what are these…??
In Verse 19 : the very last of all births the enlightened person ie. “the man of wisdom” worships Me by realizing that all this is GOD. Such a great soul is very rare indeed.”
I know that everything is God but How could it be realized…???
in last line “In conclusion, one must progress on the spiritual path and reach the level of spiritual enlightenment”…
What is spritual path..???
What is meant by ‘level of spritual enlightement’…???
1. Sattva, Rajas and Tamas are the qualities (Gunas) born of nature which tie down the imperishable soul to the body ( Chapter 14 Verse 5). One should understand their presence from the various types of actions which happen in the nature. Sattva binds thorugh attachment to happiness and knowledge, Rajas which is of the nature of passion, as born of desire and attachment,it binds the soul through attachment to actions and their fruits, and Tamas, as born of ignorance, it binds the soul through error , sloth and sleep.
2. How the GOD could be realised? –
The scriptures advise many ways how one can become an enlightened person, and one is free to adopt any particular method as suits one’s natural temparament. However, a few only can be narrated as told in Bhagavadgeeta which are briefly as follows:
a) By performing one’s duty without attachment. Doing work without attachment man attains the supreme( Chapter 3 Verse 19)
b) On earth there is no purifier as great as Knowledge; he who attains purity of heart through prolonged practice of Karmayoga, automatically sees the light of Truth in the self in course of time
( Chapter 4- Verse 38)
He, who has mastered his senses, is exclusively devoted to his practice and is full of faith, attains Knowledge; having had the revelation of Truth, he immediately attains supreme peace in the form of God realization. (Chapter 4- Verse 39)
He, who, with reason firm and free from doubt, rejoices not on obtaining what is pleasant and does not feel perturbed on meeting with the unpleasant , that knower of Brahma lives eternally in idendtity with Brahma ( i.e.He is a realized soul) (Chapter 5 Verse 20)
Becoming free from pride and delusion, conquering the evil of attachment, complete ceasing of cravings, treating pleasures and pains alike, attain the supreme immortal stage ( i.e. realization)
(Chapter 15 Verse 5)
Spiritual Path- is the way of living our life following the specified discipline of the “Dharma” i.e. which are:
Absolute fearlessness, perfect purity of mind, Yoga of meditation for the sake of Self- Realization, Charity, control of senses, performing one’s duties to elders, study and teaching of sacred books, and chanting of God’s name , Non-violence, truthfulness in speech and action, absence of anger even on provocation, composure of mind, abstaining from malicious gossip, compassion towards all creatures, absence of attachment to objects of senses, sublimity forbearance, fortitude, adopting these qualities in one’s own life would mean following a spiritual path,
To adopt our ways of living as per instructions of our Guru- As also Shirdi Sai Baba says” through Faith that GOD alone is the support of all, and follwing the spiritual discipline with Patience” one will realize the Truth in due course of time.
Spiritual Enlightenment- is the awakening of the Self i.e. understanding the real nature of the Self ( the Soul within )
Hope above explanations have cleared some of the doubts you have.
Hari Om.
hi Dumane,
Thanks!!!
I am feeling….
you explain beautifully I will try this path…
but “absence of attachment to objects of senses” is difficult thing… i felt this in last three days…
And “chanting of God’s name”….. would it help….???
What is God’s Name…???
Thank!!!
hi Rakesh,
Thanks for your feed-back.
You are probably feeling that you are unable to explain in words.
It is fine. Devotion to GOD is the phenomenon which is really not possible to be explained in words.
“absence of attachment to objects of senses”- yes,it is difficult indeed to practice, as the GOD himself in Bhagavadgeeta says:
Chapter 7 Verse 3: “Manushyanaam Sahasreshu Kashchit yatati siddhaye, Yatataaamapi siddhanaam kashcninamaam vetti tatvataha”
meaning – hardly one among thousands of men strives to realize Me ; of those striving Yogis, again, some rare one, devoting himself exclusively to Me, knows me in reality.
Your question- how to practice the detachment from the object of senses:
GOD also guides us in Chapter 3 Verse 28 :
He , however, who has true insight in to the respective Gunas (modes of Prakruti) and their actions, holding that it is the Gunas (in the shape of senses, mind, intellect and ego) that move among the Gunas (the objects of perception )does not get attached to them.
GOD has also said in Chpater 7 verse 28:
“Te dwandamohanirmukta bhajante maam dhradhavrataha” meaning those being freed from the delusion in the shape of pairs of opposites (born of attraction and repulsion) worship Me with a firm resolve in every way. This is the way to practice detachment as it is only the senses and sense object which create attraction or repulsion .
Your question- Chanting of God’s name – does it help?
If you read the biographies of any saints you would find that they all invariably have depended on the reciting of the name of the GOD. So it is proven path… have no doubts about it.
It is recommended to read the book by Shri Gondavalekar Maharaj on the “Naamsmarana”. you can visit their website and see details .
Your question- what is GOD’s name? .
Your question is right- how can GOD have name? Names are given to human beings or other beings or places or countries to identify them. God is nameless as he is formless, but human mind finds easy to log on to names as it is difficult for human mind to pray to a nameless entity. Therefore, only for the understanding by humans who have the senses of speech and hearing, depending on ones’ faith one can chant any of the names given in “Vishnusahasra naama” or simply recite “OM” which is the simplest of all and encompasses all the attributes of GOD as explained in various religious scriptures.
Hari Om.
hi Dumane
Thanks!!!
I read all of your words on daily basis….
and daily I feel more and more peace…
it also creates some doubts in my brain…
as you said “Earth, water, fire, air ,ether, mind, reason and also ego , constitute God’s nature divided into eight parts”
you mean Ego and mind also the part of God… If so then why these creates so much problems in me..???
Also you line :”The scriptures advise many ways how one can become an enlightened person, and one is free to adopt any particular method as suits one’s natural temparament”…
How can i find my natural temparament…???
“By performing one’s duty without attachment”… I tried this but could not find if my works are with attachment or not… but i am feeling myself with very strange feelings…without(first time) any fear of loosing…
I read in “shrigondavalekar.org”:
Shree Maharaj taught his followers ways to serve Lord :–
– First is by distributing food amongst the hungry people, called “Ann-Daan” and
– Second is by worshiping Visible Image of God, called “Sagun-Bhakti
First is suitable for me… but second…
Also I read about in addition GOSEVAA (serving cow and other poor animals)…
What is GOSEVA…???
GOD is the souce of entire creation, and the creation also disappears in GOD…. It gives a very vital vibe…
I am glad to know that you are following what has been explained in Bhagavadgeeta.
Q: If ego is part of GOD why is it creating problems in me?
Please think about who is that telling you that ego is creating problems in you . If your ego is telling you that it is creating the problem, and as ego is part of the GOD’s nature (lower material nature of course), we can understand that it is the lower nature which is telling what is the problem and therefore we have to move to the higher nature i.e. the spiritual nature of the GOD.
Q:How can one find his or her own temparament?
We are all a creation by nature. Thus, it can be understood that the thoughts which normally come to one’s mind is what can be called as one’s own nature or temparament. By temparament is also to be understood as Sattvik, Rajasik or Tamasik by nature. By self meditation, the mind within would reveal one’s own nature.
Nice to know that you have read from gondavalekar.com site.
Performing Sagun Bhakti- means understanding and following the established norms of “Dharma” as the GOD is with and without attributes, Sagun Bhakti is the stage through which one can go and progress toward the Nirgun Bhakti ( the one which is attributeless ) .
GOSEVAA: It means serving the cow and poor animals in order to develop the sense of oneness with all the life forms , as GOD is the life in all the beings ( Remember Bhagavadgeeta Chapter 7 Verse 9: “Jeevanam Sarvabhooteshu” meaning HE is the life in all beings )
HOW TO RECITE “OM” : As recommended by Swami Ramdev, if you read some of his books which prescribe the methodolgy , you can follow that , but it is recommended to be recited in a convenient, and comfortable posture and without causing any disturbance to any other beings around.
Hari Om
Here is what Swami Ramdev has prescribed how to recite AUM after Pranayama:
Udgeet: In this pranayam one has to concentrate on inhaling and exhaling and try to concentrate the mind. Breathe normally and chant Aum. The breathing should be so simple that the sound of breath should not be heard and even cotton kept in front of the nose should not move. Chant Aum and visualize it while practicing this pranayam.
Meditative pose: Concentrate the mind on inhaling and exhaling and think of god. God has created our eyebrows, eyes, nose, ears, lips, heart etc. in Aum shape (Hindi word). Imagine the presence of god in every particle and meditate. Deeper the experience, deeper the physical, mental and spiritual energy. Pranayam overcomes the physical disorders, gives good health and the devotee proceeds on the path of spirituality.
