Many times, people battling cancer find themselves in mental disarray as they come to terms with frightening and even contradictory information and are subject to painful and invasive procedures. When a person’s mind is so disturbed, it often becomes challenging to make crucial decisions and even deal with one’s own family and friends. Practicing Pranayam, meditation and relaxation help in relieving tension. When the tension is released, energy can flow more easily in the body and allow patients to experience a sense of well-being and strength and achieve a balance of body, mind, and spirit

 Yoga brings about a harmony of mind and body and the physical process of engaging in “Asanas” or postures allows the mind to free itself from oppressing worries and thoughts. In addition, breathing exercises help to steady the mind and meditation allows a person to focus their thoughts.

The Asanas or postures can be customized for each person depending on their specifc ailments or physical abilities. Further, one can change the posture or adapt it so as to make it as comfortable to the doer as possible.

Yoga offers a number of obvious physical benefits to cancer patients. The body gains better flexibility and strength while providing relaxation since Yoga is not strenuous when compared to aerobics or work outs in the gym. But what is even more fascinating are the spirtual aspects of Yoga that allow the mind to harmonize with the body.
